This series of 8 pre-recorded webinars is designed to help prepare the Forensic Nurse Examiner for the SANE Certification Examinations. 

After completing this webinar series, registrants may attend an additional set of 3 live virtual and interactive Q & A zoom sessions in August 2024.

The learning objectives center around the SANE-A® and SANE-P® Test Content Outlines. Throughout the 8 pre-recorded sessions, facilitators discuss best practice recommendations for delivery of comprehensive medical forensic care to victims of sexual assault and abuse across the lifespan. Jessica Albers
Jessica Albers MFS, BSN, RN, SANE-A, SANE-P

Jessica Albers has been a Forensic Nurse for more than 14 years and is a board-certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Jessica is dedicated to providing best-practice medical-forensic care to victims and perpetrators of violence and has served on a variety of county, regional and statewide initiatives to enhance victim services and increase training across the state. Most recently she has been a member of the KBI Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, Kansas Sexual Assault Response Advisory Committee and has served two terms as the President of the Kansas Chapter of International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN). She has assisted with the development and sustainability of SANE programs in Kansas and coordinated the first two-day SANE clinical training with live models in the state. She has been recognized by the IAFN for Forensic Nursing Excellence and was a recipient of the 2021 National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s Visionary Voice Award.

Karen Groot
Karen Groot RN, SANE-A, SANE-P

Karen has worked in the forensic nursing field for over twenty years. She was one of the first nurses in the SANE program at Salina Regional Health Center and coordinated that department for 17 years. She earned SANE-A and SANE-P certification in 2008 and has maintained them since that time. She has taught forensic nurses and other professionals all over the state of Kansas. She has been instrumental in helping various other SANE programs start up and maintain sustainability. She is currently a prn forensic nurse in Salina and consults with attorneys on forensic cases in Kansas and Colorado.

Trisha Haskell
Trisha Haskell BSN, RN, SANE-A, SANE-P

Trisha earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Baker University and began practicing as a sexual assault nurse examiner soon after. She is dual board certified as a SANE-A and a SANE-P. Trisha serves as the Forensic Program Coordinator at HaysMed in Hays, Kansas. This team provides rural medical forensic care for over 26 counties in the western region of Kansas. Trisha provides education and leadership to the forensic nursing staff, guidance around the forensic patient population to the local and surrounding hospitals, and community education and outreach to various entities on prevention and caring for those who affected by violence. Trisha serves as Committee Chair of the Ellis County SART Advisory Board, which provides awareness, support, and education to communities throughout Ellis County, Kansas. She has been a member of IAFN and a Kansas Chapter IAFN Member since 2013.

Jennifer Johnson
Jennifer Johnson DNP, APRN, AFN-BC, SANE-A, SANE-P, AFN-C, DF-AFN

Johnson Legal Nurse Consulting, LLC

Jennifer Johnson is a Board Certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and a Board Certified Advanced Forensic Nurse Practitioner, Board Certified Forensic Nurse Examiner, and Board Certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for pediatrics, adults and adolescents. She earned her Associates degree in Nursing from Fort Scott College in 1996. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Pittsburg State University in 1998, master’s degree in nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2002 and earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Maryville University. Previously, she developed and directed a comprehensive forensic program in the Midwest. She is the President and Owner of Johnson Legal Nurse Consulting, LLC, an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee and an adjunct professor at Maryville University. Over the last 20 years, Jennifer has continued to advance forensic nursing through publication of forensic related topics and educating law enforcement, attorneys and health care providers on the importance of the medical forensic examination and the role of the forensic nurse examiner. She is an appointed member of several professional and governmental organizations related to forensic nursing, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology/National Institute of Justice Evidence Management Project, and a Co-Founder of the Academy of Forensic Nursing."

Tina Peck
Tina Peck APRN, FNP-BC, SANE-A, SANE-P

Tina is a board-certified nurse practitioner and forensic nurse examiner currently serving as the founder and Executive Director of Hope Medical Forensic Services, LLC in Wichita, Kansas, along with providing care to pediatric patients at the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County. Tina has been a nurse for 24 years, with 16 of those being in forensic nursing. She is nationally certified as a sexual assault nurse examiner and provides care to adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients who have been victimized by sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, or human trafficking. Tina has been recognized by Barry Grissom, former U.S. Attorney, District of Kansas, and Ascension Healthcare for the implementation of a protocol for medical providers on how to identify and respond to victims of human trafficking in the healthcare setting. Tina was a contributor to the HEAL Trafficking and Hope for Justice “Protocol Toolkit for Developing a Response to Victims of Human Trafficking in Health Care Settings.” Tina has been the recipient of the Wichita Business Journal Healthcare Heroes Award, International Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses by the Daisy Foundation, and an award for outstanding heroism toward ending child abuse by the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County.

Morgan Wood
Morgan Wood MSN-FN, RN, SANE-A

Morgan Stebens is the Forensic Program Supervisor at The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS). She began her medical career in the military at age 17 as a combat medic and deployed in 2007/2008 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. She went back to school after returning from deployment, receiving her Victim’s Survivor Certificate and bachelor’s degree in nursing. She started as a new graduate in the ER at TUKHS and became the coordinator for the forensic program in 2015/2016. She finished her master’s degree in forensic nursing through Aspen University in 2019 and created her current position as the full-time clinical forensic program supervisor, where she has grown the forensic program to three full-time staff members and full forensic coverage 24/7 and had the opportunity to create change for her Health System. She has four awesome and powerful children; two she birthed Maddux and Brooklynn and two she acquired Mady and Grayson, and a new husband, Spencer who she adores!
